World Wide Web

  • American Institute of Physics (AIP)
  • ArchNet has been restructured in order to provide more general resources for the study of archaeology.
  • City of Cambridge, Massachusetts Homepage
  • Ethiopia Country Study
  • Gateway to Antarctica. The International Centre for Antarctic Information and Research is pleased to announce the Gateway to Antarctica. This Web server has been set up to provide the international community with information about Antarctica.
  • Global Jewish Information Network System.
  • InterNIC Directory and Database Services added 114 entries to the InterNIC Directory of Directories during the month of July. Take a look at this comprehensive list of resources made available on the 'Net during the last month.
  • Information Technology Institute (ITI), the applied R&D arm of the National Computer Board (NCB) of Singapore, has established a WWW server. ITI creates and deploys advanced IT innovations. The server offers info on R&D programmes, fact sheets, the ITI Innovator newsletter, publication lists, conference announcements, press releases, job openings, more.
  • loQtus: The Quotations Web Page. loQtus is a storehouse of large quotations archives as well as a regularly-updated shelf for periodically-posted quotation services. It features several megabytes of quotations, spanning the staunchliy literary to the humorous.
  • University of California at Berkeley, Center for Particle Astrophysics, WWW server. Detailed information about the Center's mission and research efforts, CfPA Education and Outreach programs, workshops and seminars, and a comprehensive Center directory. The CfPA bi-monthly newsletter will also be offered, each issue featuring a lead story by one of the Center research groups.
  • University of Virginia Curry School of Education's Instructional Technology Program has announced INTERACTIVE FROG DISSECTION. The tutorial combines text with 60 in-line color images and 17 QuickTime movies illustrating dissection procedures and internal organs. Numerous clickable image maps provide interactive practice. Research with pre-Web versions of the program suggests it is a valuable preparation tool or even a useful substitute for laboratory dissection.

  • An Internet Society Press Release, dated August 4, 1994, states the number of reachable hosts on the Internet has reached 3.2 million. Over a million reachable hosts were added during the first six months of 1994. This indicates a growth rate of 81% over last year. The figures were taken from the Internet Domain Survey done by Mark Lottor of Network Wizards at the end of July.   • The Internet Index Number 2 (Inspired by "Harper's Index"). A listing of 32 fun and interesting 'Net statistics.

Weekend Scouting:

  • The Virtual Newsroom is back, this time at Woodstock '94 via the WorldWideWeb. We're asking for your experiences of the original Woodstock (whether you were there or not) in text, photos, graphics or whatever to be included on a Mosaic home page on The Electric Examiner.

About the Scout Report

The Scout Report is a weekly publication offered by InterNIC Information Services to the Internet community as a fast, convenient way to stay informed about network activities. Its purpose is to combine in one place the highlights of new (and newly-discovered) online resources and other announcements seen on the Internet during the preceding week.

A wide range of topics are included in the Report with an emphasis on resources thought to be of interest to the InterNIC's primary audience, the research and education community. Each resource has been verified for substantial content and accessibility within a day of the release of the Report.

The Scout Report is provided in multiple formats -- electronic mail, gopher, World Wide Web, and now HTML. The gopher and World Wide Web versions of the Report include links to all listed resources. The Report is released every weekend.

NOTE: In addition to the ascii version, the Scout Report is distributed in HTML format via a separate mailing list. This allows sites to easily add the Scout Report to their local WorldWideWeb servers each week, providing fast access for local users. Subscription information for the scout-report-html mailing list is included below. Note that permission statements appear on both versions of the Scout Report, and we ask that these be included in any re-posting or re-distributing of the report. Thank you.
